ABOUT KLODEN
Kloden theater is now established in Kabelgata on Økern. This is the heart of Hovinbyen, Oslo’s largest development area in modern times.
In the spring of 2021, we opened the pilot stage in Kabelgata 31. This is the first part of Kloden theater and will be a place with production and showing of performances, professional events, artistic projects for and with children and young people in collaboration with professional artists, and various types of gatherings for both the local community and the performing arts community. The pilot stage is a project that makes it possible to develop and test content and programs in practice, leading up to the opening of the Kloden theater in 2025.
On the pilot stage, we will program screenings of Norwegian and international performances for children and young people, and we will also rent out so that other artists can show their performances here.
In 2025, we will open the big theater house on the same street. There will be performances and events throughout the year, for children, young people and families, and for everyone who works with performing arts.
Kloden theater collaborates with theaters and stages to make the best performances available to many more, both in Oslo and elsewhere in the country.
The project was started by Norsk Scenekunstbruk in 2015 and developed with support from the City of Oslo, the Norwegian Cultural Council and the Bergesenstiftelsen. The pilot stage has been built with funds from the Norwegian Cultural Council, the Sparebankstiftelsen and the Bergesenstiftelsen. Kloden is a member of the Norwegian Theater and Orchestra Association and Assitej and has operating support from Oslo Municipality.
FOR FAMILIES
At Kloden Theater, children and adults will have fun, exciting and interesting experiences together. All children should feel that Kloden is a safe place and that they are most welcome, regardless of background or ability.
At Kloden, we talk about taking children seriously as little as we talk about taking adults seriously. It is obvious. Children are unique individuals with different experiences and interests. Therefore, Kloden will present a rich selection of the best performing arts from Norway and abroad. The children will also get to play and explore their own expressions together with professional artists.
FOR CHILDREN
Hi! We’re building a theater for you. The theater is called Kloden. It is located on Økern in Oslo. Maybe you live nearby? Or maybe you have driven past by bus or subway?
At Kloden you can see fun, weird and nice performances. You can also play and make something with other children and with artists.
What do you want to do and experience in a theater? What do you want a children’s theater to look like? Write or send a drawing to post@kloden.no.
You will find us in Kabelgata. Feel free to visit!
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Kloden teater will show the best performances for you who are young.
The globe should also be a place for discussion and conversation for and with young people. We have already held several such events and we look forward to the continuation. We cheer on challenging and respectful meetings face to face.
Young people will be involved in developing the program at Kloden. Do you have wishes or suggestions? Contact us!
FOR ARTISTS
We have now opened Kloden’s pilot stage, a production and exhibition room in Kabelgata 31 on Økern. The venue can be rented out to performing artists, in addition to the fact that Kloden will program performances and events here.
Kloden is also working to establish a warehouse for the performing arts field. Many companies and scenographers are calling for storage in Oslo, and soon we can hopefully offer just that. Our goal is that a warehouse for the performing arts field, and preferably also a joint workshop, will lead to more reuse.
In 2025, the Kloden theater itself will open. This will be a programming stage with two halls and four to five production rooms that maintain a high standard and are available around the clock.
Kloden will contribute to better working conditions and ensure that more of the good performing arts are publicly available both in Oslo and elsewhere.
FOR PROFESSIONALS
At Kloden, there are regular seminars, debates and lectures. The theater will also make it easier to research artistic practice.
Klodens ambition is to become a hub in a national and international professional network.
FOR SCHOOLS
At Kloden Theater, there are regular performances for children and young people through The Cultural Schoolbag (DKS). First on the pilot stage and out on the schools, and eventually on the finished theater house. Our goal is that children who visit us through The Cultural Schoolbag, will be so excited that they want to come back in their free time.
