Pi*s & preach on Kloden : "Mieko at dance camp" (screening and book launch)

Arrangementet er gratis, men du må hente ut billett på forhånd.

Welcome to the screening, book launch and conversation about literature and performing arts for children!

Mariko Miyata-Jancey shows excerpts from Mieko at a dance camp – a combined performance and book presentation – which premieres at Kloden theater same day at 10:00.

After the screening, the conversation takes over, when Mariko meets Guro Sibeko, artist and activist, to discuss Mariko's project across books and stage. The bar is open with soup and drinks, and it will of course be possible to obtain a signed copy of the book.

Mieko at Dance Camp is a colorful and warm picture book about standing out, jealousy, the joy of dancing and new friendships. The book addresses important themes such as belonging, exclusion and racist statements, with humor, enthusiasm and a big heart.

About Mariko Miyata-Jancey

Mariko (b. 1989) is a Norwegian-Japanese multidisciplinary artist. Her work ranges from children's books to essays, and from children's performances to experimental dance. Throughout her career, she has explored human existence – identity, motherhood and love – by unraveling the complexities of everyday life and drawing lines from the private to the fundamental existential.

Mariko's first book, Mieko Dances (2023), won the Ministry of Culture's award for best picture book and has been translated into five languages.

With a staged reading where she herself reads and dances out the book, she has visited Dansens Hus three times and opened the Literature Festival in Lillehammer. In 2025, she was invited by the Norwegian Embassy in Japan to participate in a literature event at the Nordic Pavilion during the World Expo in Osaka.

Mariko holds a bachelor's degree in modern and contemporary dance with pedagogy, a master's degree in choreography from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and a master's degree in literature for children and young people from the Norwegian Children's Book Institute. As a choreographer, she works at the intersection of dance and theater.
