The Witches of Salem – When Lies Become Truth – Nordic Black Xpress
Based on the motif of Arthur Miller's play.
Premiere!
What happens when a lie is repeated so many times that everyone starts to believe it? The Salem Witch Trials is an exciting and disturbing theatrical story that shows how dangerous fear, rumors and peer pressure can be – especially when adults with power stop thinking for themselves.
The story begins with a group of young girls who are caught doing something forbidden: they dance in the forest. Afraid of punishment, they do what seems easiest right then and there – they point fingers at others. Suddenly, ordinary people in the town are accused of witchcraft. No one has any proof, but the accusations spread quickly. Fear takes over, and soon the whole town is caught in mass hysteria.
In this world, it is dangerous to ask questions. If you speak out, you may become a suspect yourself. The legal system, which is supposed to protect people, is used as a weapon. Judgements are made without evidence, and innocent people are convicted and executed. Lies become “truths” – just because enough people believe them.
The Salem Witch Trials is not just a story about witches. It's about us: about how social media, rumors, cancellations, and peer pressure can ruin lives even today. The play shows how important it is to dare to stand up for the truth, even when it costs.
This is theatre that is intense, dramatic and full of strong emotions. It asks questions that are still relevant: Who has power? Who is believed? And what happens when fear is allowed to rule more than reason?
