Mieko at dance camp - Mariko Miyata-Jancey

Mieko is looking forward to dance camp – dancing, laughing and sleeping over with her best friend Sofia.

But everything doesn't turn out quite as she had imagined.

Why does Sofia suddenly say that Mariama can put her sleeping pad together with theirs? After all, Mieko and Sofia were supposed to sleep next to each other. And why can't dad ever learn the difference between L and R? It's not actually called sausage in the ass!

Mieko at Dance Camp is a colorful and warm story about standing out, feeling jealous and finding new friends. The book addresses important themes such as belonging, exclusion and racist statements – with humor, enthusiasm and a big heart. Skinkeape's expressive illustrations create a visual universe full of energy and personality.

On stage, you will encounter a live performance where words, music and movement merge. Dancer and author Mariko Miyata-Jancey brings the story to life through readings and dance, while musician Ibou Cissokho creates the atmosphere with kora and djembe.

This is the second book about Mieko. The first, Mieko danser , received rave reviews and won the Ministry of Culture's picture book award.
