CROQUEMORT: a funeral performance – deWangen productions

This autumn evening you go to the cemetery, of all places. Isn't it true that the veil between the living and the dead is thinner at this time of year? Fog drifts between the silent graves and dim light seeps from the church's tall windows. This is where you go in. You're given headphones at the door and a seat in the rows of pews. A film crew is setting up; cables are taped to the stone floor, spotlights are hung, camera equipment is set up. A funeral scene is to be shot, and you're an extra.

In front of the altar stands a coffin. The deceased left the world without a survivor. The priest has lent the church for the recording tonight, and now the two ceremonies share space, lights and hymns; one in real, the other in fake. It is becoming increasingly difficult to tell the difference.

Croquemort invites you to a behind-the-scenes funeral experience, in the space between the uncertain and the inevitable.
