CODA: Black – Oulouy and _fr3quency-Mukti
Two performances are played at Kloden theater during the Coda festival
Black – Oulouy and _fr3quency – Mukti
Black – Oulouy / A body that mourns, fights and celebrates – all at once.
Vulnerability and strength coexist in a work that explores experiences of violence, resistance, and liberation. Personal and collective stories intertwine in a physical, visual, and musical narrative of what it means to be black in today's world.
With references to the Black Lives Matter movement, the murder of George Floyd and recent history, the film examines how black bodies are shaped, read and represented in Western societies. On stage stands a body that bears both wounds and triumph, grief and celebration.
The movement language draws inspiration from street and club dances from the African continent and the diaspora in the United States, including Coupé-Décalé, Ndombolo, Afrohouse and Krump. Through rhythm, energy and presence, a work is created where protest, hope and celebration coexist.
Oulouy is a choreographer, dancer and artistic director, born in Ivory Coast and based in Spain. His work explores identity, liberation and contemporary experiences through a movement language inspired by street and club dances from the African continent and the diaspora.
His works include Black (2020), Afrikan Party (2022) and Kong (2024). His works have been presented internationally at, among others, Dansens Hus in Oslo, Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, Bluma Appel in Toronto and Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona.
Afrikan Party received the award for best choreography from the Catalan Performing Arts Critics Awards in 2023, and Black was selected for Aerowaves25. Oulouy is also the founder and curator of the Oyofe festival, which is dedicated to street and club dance.

_fr3quency – MUKTI / Amisha Kumra
Frequencies become vibrations that propagate through the body's mass. Body and sound respond to each other in an encounter that is created here and now.
The Indian tradition of jugalbandi is based on a dialogue between musician and dancer. In _fr3quency, three artists meet in a living dialogue between hip-hop and kathak, inspired by jugalbandi and hip-hop's cypher culture.
Artist Gonzy builds the soundscape live with bePad and loop station, while different frequencies set the bodies in resonance. Energy, breath and rhythm develop into a physical groove where sound and body constantly influence each other, creating movement in the moment.
Below CODA, an excerpt from _fr3quency is presented.

Amisha Kumra , also known as Misha, is a dance artist, DJ and choreographer from Oslo with roots in Punjab, India. Her artistic practice moves between hip hop, house, kathak, bhangra, Bollywood and contemporary dance, and is shaped by experiences from various dance and club cultures in Norway, Amsterdam, India, Paris, Brazil, New York and other places internationally.
As artistic director of the company MUKTI, she explores the intersections between her Indian heritage, diasporic experience, and hip-hop and house culture. Through the method of peeling the purple onion, she examines the similarities and differences between these traditions, and how learned movement patterns can be “peeled away” to develop a deeper, personal movement language.
