Welcome to our new colleague!

September 2, 2024

Bård Scheie Karlsaune will start his position as administrative manager at Kloden Theatre on September 1st .

With his administrative and financial background, Bård will help strengthen Kloden theater's operations and work going forward to achieve the goal of realizing the new theater building that is ready to be built. We have had a chat with him on his first day of work, so you can get to know him a little better!

Welcome to Kloden theater, Bård! What do you think about working here?

- I'm really looking forward to it! I'm an economist with broad experience in the management of public funds, including in the arts and culture sector from the city council department. Now I'm looking forward to getting down to where art for children and young people is created. I've missed working closer to the floor and further away from the tops.

What will your focus be in your work? Kloden theater?

- "My focus will be on getting the most out of the money we have available. In addition, I want to make sure that we get good applications, so that we can use the funds to create more of the very good things that are already being produced here, give children and young people opportunities and prevent exclusion.

What's the first thing you want to do?

The first thing I want to do is to plan the expansion of the theater and secure funding. We must have good, realistic budgets and follow up with proper applications and funding.

Bård Scheie Karlsaune

What is your own experience of performing arts for children and young people?

- I've seen a lot, have an interest in it and have many friends in the field.

Commitment to disadvantaged people

What is your previous work experience?

- I have the longest experience from the City Hall in Oslo where I worked with the field of culture and sports, including the financial aspects and follow-up and management of the agencies. I can also mention that I am a socially engaged person who works voluntarily for human rights and Palestine. I am involved in organizing a solidarity run for Palestine in Oslo in the autumn of 2025, with a full marathon, half marathon, 10 km and hopefully a wheelchair race.

Where does this commitment come from?

– For as long as I can remember, I have had an eye and heart for the disadvantaged, and a need to fight for all their rights. This includes the opportunities of children, young people and underrepresented groups, which is reflected in the Kloden theatre fights for.

You already have good knowledge of the surrounding area. Kloden theater, since you live in Hovinbyen. What is it like to live here?

- Living in Hovinbyen is getting better and better. I quickly see what constitutes a successful living environment and what does not, even within Hovinbyen. This can be seen in how important meeting places and green spaces are, and that they are designed in a way that adds value to those who live here.

Now you've already had half a day on Kloden theater, what impression did you get?

- It's been great! There's a very nice and talented group of people working here, and I'm looking forward to being part of them.

Strengths Kloden general operation of the theater

Artistic Director Ådne Sekkelsten is very much looking forward to having Bård on the team.

– With his solid administrative and financial background, Bård will strengthen Kloden the theatre's general operations and work going forward to achieve the goal of realizing the new theatre building that is ready to be built. This will also help me, among other things, to keep more of the focus on the artistic work and programming at the building, says Artistic Director Ådne Sekkelsten.
