"Lavaskogen": Production from Kloden teater goes on international tour

May 16, 2023

After its premiere at Kloden teater in 2022, where it received rave reviews and played to full houses, "Lavaskogen" is now ready to take on international stages.

- "We received close follow-up and a good outside view from Kjell Moberg from Kloden teater when we produced 'Lavaskogen'. Kloden teater also provided five rounds of test audiences, where we adapted elements such as tempo and rhythm as a result of the experience," says tour-ready choreographer Ingri Fiksdal about the collaboration with Kloden teater in connection with the performance 'Lavaskogen'.

"Lavaskogen" is for children aged six and up. The performance is produced by Fiksdal Dans Stiftelse in collaboration with Kloden teater and Den kulturelle skolesekken Oslo. Now that the show is leaving the country, Lithuania is the first to go. In May, the show will be performed in Dusetai Cultural Center in Dusetai, Šiauliai Drama Theater in Šiauliai and Birštonas Culture Center in Birštonas.

Target group with great potential

- "Lavaskogen" is a dance performance with a focus on the sensual. The audience has the opportunity to recognize the dancers' movements in their own bodies, as the audience are also bodies with many physical experiences. This is often called kinesthetic empathy.

This is how the choreographer explains the plot of the touring children's show.

Can you be more specific?

I don't want to reduce the action down to the verbal because dance and choreography exist on their own level of meaning. The performance is not a single message, but a complexity of different levels of meaning experienced through the senses. The target audience is very imaginative, and there is great potential for multiple interpretations.

Fiksdal became interested in the children's segment through having children of primary school age herself. Her next production on Kloden teater is "Stillheten", which is for a slightly older target group, from 5th to 7th grade.

- "The starting point for 'Stillheten' is to sketch a future world where people have to carry their own houses," says Fiksdal about the next production.

Reviews of "Lavaskogen"

Scenekunst.no:

The performers spread enthusiasm and communicate brilliantly with the audience, and the reactions from the children are immediate, effervescent and playful.

Periscope:

Lavaskogen starts in a scenic nightmare vision and ends in a kind of trauma processing. A strangely uncompromising children's performance.
