At a movie theater in Mumbai the love story Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is so popular that it has been shown continuously for more than 20 years. On Sunday, September 15, you can experience it with us during Bollywood drive-in cinema.

Bollywood drive-in cinema is organized by TrAP (Transcultural Arts Production), Bollywood Festival Norway and Kloden theater. In addition to an outdoor cinema, the event will include food trucks and mocktails for both those arriving by car and those arriving on foot.

Sakib Saboor from TrAP, Nasrullah Qureshi from Bollywood Festival Norway and Kyla Ina Sabha from Kloden theater shares a little about the event, the film and what you can expect.

What makes you want to organize a Bollywood drive-in cinema at Økern?

- Økern is an area in Oslo that is constantly evolving and represents a diversity of cultures. Our desire with the event is to reach a wide audience, both those who are familiar with Bollywood and those who are curious to experience something new. This movie has gathered a sea of people before, and we believe it can continue to do so. Perhaps the experience will be a memory that sticks with people for a long time. Let's hope so," says Sakib.

Tell us about the movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and what it is about? 

- Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a very popular movie. In Mumbai, it's been playing in the same theater consistently for more than 20 years. Some movie buffs have seen it 1,000 times and saved their tickets. The movie has broken all records in terms of the number of people who have seen it," says Nasrullah and continues:

- The plot is a unique love story, showing both the ups and downs of love. Two people in love with each other try to convince the world that they want each other. At the same time, their love comes into conflict with families and traditions. Love is stronger than anything else, and you get to experience that in this movie. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, the lead actors, have come out very well and have become superstars as a result of this movie. It came out in 1995 and is still very popular. In the past, we have had a few screenings of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge during Bollywood Festival Norway, and it has always been sold out. The story is told in a simple way, and contains both drama, comedy and love.

What can audiences expect during the Bollywood drive-in?

- During the drive-in cinema, the audience gets to see the movie classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge for free! There will be various food trucks where you can buy food, and there is also a bar where you can buy mocktails. This is a unique experience where you can go to a drive-in movie and be in a cultural setting at the same time," says Kyla.

Do you have a favorite Bollywood movie and what is it that makes you like it so much?

- "It's a very difficult question, but I would say it has to be either Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge or Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Both films are classics that I have watched in my childhood and not least feature the legendary Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan," says Sakib.

What is the background to the collaboration between TrAP, Bollywood Festival Norway and Kloden Teater ?

- The reason for the collaboration is that we are all concerned about diversity. It's better to collaborate across associations to make Oslo's diversity known. The event is both a kickoff for Bollywood Festival Norway, which runs from September 27 to October 3, and a start for further collaboration between the three of us," says Nasrullah.

Who is the event for and can I come by car?

- The event is for everyone! Come alone, with friends or family. It's completely free and everyone is welcome. If you don't have a car, you're still welcome. We have covered seating for those without a car. If you haven't seen a Bollywood movie before, this is the perfect opportunity," says Kyla.
