Inside the big tent is a small tent, and inside the small tent is a boy. He has traveled far. He has mostly traveled alone. He will show you the things he has brought with him. He will also tell you why he traveled, and the path he took, but he cannot tell you how the story ends.

"We Come from Far, Far Away" is a theater production based on stories collected at Hvalstad transit reception center for underage asylum seekers in Asker. The production won The Hedda Award for best youth production in 2017 and has been performed at the Showbox festival in Oslo.

We follow the young people Omar and Abdallah on their escape from Aleppo in Syria, until one of them arrives at Oslo Central Station. The audience is seated inside a tent, and the action takes place close to, and also among, the audience. The participants' stories are painful and incredible, but as with most young people, they are full of energy, vitality and hope for the future.

"We Come from Far, Far Away" premiered at the Showbox festival in 2016, and has since been performed in England, Ireland, Sweden and the Czech Republic. In spring 2018, the production will be performed at Imaginate Festival in Scotland, Kopergietery in Belgium and Szene Bunte Wähne in Austria. Later in 2018, the show will move on to Harbourfront Center in Toronto, before touring for six weeks in New York, Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon in 2019.

NIE has created 28 productions since its inception in 2001, and has presented its work in 37 countries. Every year, around 30,000 audiences see the company's work at home and abroad.
