The Marathon Runner – Andrea Jervell

On October 22, 1978, an unknown woman crosses the finish line of the New York Marathon. She shouldn't have been there in the first place, she had actually given up. She shouts, "I'll never run a marathon again," throws her sneakers at the man, and disappears into the crowd. What she doesn't know is that she has just set a world record, and that what was supposed to be her finish became her big start. Overnight, Grete Waitz became a name on everyone's lips.

The Marathon Runner is a documentary about running, endurance and equality. With voices from both the past and present, Grete Waitz's story is illuminated through a mix of fiction and fact. A tribute to Norway's most winning long-distance runners of all time.
