Jacob – Tony Tran
JACOB is a performance for two male performers that explores a relationship of dependency between two people, and the friction and power shift that occurs. It is also a study of an emotional relationship between two men. The masculine intimacy depicted here is not necessarily about the romantic or sexual, but embraces all types of relationships.
Tony Tran and Knut Vikstrøm Precht invite the audience into a playful and physical choreography that examines how a relationship can be limiting, liberating, supportive and destructive at the same time. The audience joins in an exploration of both the performers' and their own boundaries for intimacy, friendship and love, and the tension that lies in the transition between all these phases and emotions. At the same time, the piece breaks with the traditional representation of masculinity and the conventional expectations of gender roles. The relationship depicted in Jakob appears humble and real, supported by an exploratory and metaphorical body language.
The work is the continuation of Tran's ongoing work on power and identity in human relationships. How do relationships and duality, the fact that we are no longer alone, affect the choices we make as individuals? How does this shape our behavior and our individual actions? And how do we encounter the other?
