Does my beat fit? – Nordic Black Express and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra
It is believed that humans and animals have an innate instinct to be part of a herd, and to fit in with that herd. Humans seek out others and want to be part of a larger community.
But how do you know which flock is yours?
Can you choose which group you want to be a part of?
Can one be part of multiple flocks?
How do you actually adapt to a herd?
And can one adapt to a herd without losing one's own individuality?
In DOES MY BEAT FIT?, theatre students from Nordic Black Express and musicians from the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra explore these questions, and examine what herd mentality, individuality and identity mean to us. Through a co-creative process consisting of improvisations, writing exercises and discussions between the actors and musicians, they have created both the scenic and musical material together. Perhaps we have found some answers to the questions we ask?
During 2023/2024, theatre students from Nordic Black Express and musicians from the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra developed a collaboration on a performance where classical music meets theatre in an unpredictable interaction in both the process and on stage. After full houses at Kloden theater in May 2024, the group will meet once again for pranks and interaction in DOES MY BEAT FIT?
The performance was nominated for the Hedda Award for best youth performance in 2024.
