The North Pole’s Magical Tram Transport (Nordpolen Magiske Trikketransport): The Best Children’s Show of the Year

20. June 2023

The Heddajury has spoken. The North Pole’s Magical Tram Transport is a well-rounded, meticulously crafted, and fully realized artistic offering.

On Sunday evening, during the prestigious Hedda Awards ceremony, Feil Teater’s production The North Pole’s Magical Tram Transport took home the victory in the category of Best Children’s Show, to the enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

Kloden Theatre is a co-producer of the production that premiered at the Loft of Kloden Theatre on December 1, 2022, and ran until January 2023.

– A genuinely warm-hearted performance

The North Pole’s Magical Tram Transport was in illustrious company. The other nominees in the category were Bragetheatre with the production Eldorado and Trøndelag Theatre with the production Havfruen. In the jury’s rationale, it states:

Those who wish to create performing arts for children must understand that they are not just a target group and future audiences. They are an audience who here and now deserve a fully-cast, welly-worked and full-fledged artistic offering. All the nominees this year have grasped that quality. The winner has managed to create a magical world that collaborates with us as co-creators in the performance. Through immersive and all-encompassing play, we are invited into an engaging, wise, and interactive theatrical journey. It is an exciting and suspenseful escape from a CEO, a representative of cynicism that seeks to undermine the foundation of this genuinely heartfelt performance. We are safely guided by a young and impressively talented actor, who knows how to play with us, engage us, and improvise in front of us without ever losing control.

The Heddajury’s rationale

A scenographic universe

Kjell Moberg, artistic director at Kloden Theatre, believes that the ability to listen to the target audience, in addition to the scenographic universe that the performance offers the audience, explains some of Feil Theatre’s success.

– As the artistic director, it is particularly exciting that Feil Theatre wins this award. I was the director of their graduation performance at the theatre education program at Nord University. Since then, I have closely followed the company. We are going to hear a lot from them in the years to come, says Moberg.

Before the premiere of the award-winning play, it took several weeks to prepare the Loft at Kloden Theatre.

– The performance is a total theatre experience where the audience is led from room to room within a scenographic universe. To accomplish this, office spaces in the administration were utilized as dressing rooms, among other things, says Moberg.
