Kloden Theatre – The Building Project
We are now in the final planning phase before we begin the actual construction of Kloden Theatre here i Kabelgata. The theatre will be built in the former premises of Standard Telefon and Kabelfabrikk, and will house two stages, two rehearsal rooms, workshops, production spaces, offices, and a café.
Kloden Theatre is a significant and important leap forward for Norwegian performing arts for young audiences. The theatre has clear national and international goals and ambitions, and is located in the eastern part of Oslo where there are few or no art and cultural institutions for a diverse population. The new theatre building will be unique as a performing arts institution in Norway, providing a dedicated space for performing arts and youth, and serving as a cultural hub in the development of Groruddalen and Økern. Kloden Theatre will also be a major investment in infrastructure and artistic development for the independent performing arts sector in Norway.
Kloden Theatre aims to be a safe meeting place where children and youth can experience high-quality and relevant performing arts, as well as actively participate in creating art themselves, whether it’s in the form of performing arts, visual arts, podcast production or art criticism. Kloden Theatre will have its own artistic program featuring professional performances and guest shows specifically for children and youth. Additionally, we will offer a diverse range of activities and workshops developed in close collaboration with the local community. Kloden Theatre is being developed as a cultural landmark and will serve as a pioneering project not only nationally but also internationally.
Individual and collective performing artists are a professional field and target group that is important for Kloden Theatre. With our national and international network, we function as an incubator and facilitator for these artists. Talent development, audience development and network building are key elements in our work with this target group.
